SIÈGE ROUGE
One of a series
of six paintings based on seats in Paris métro stations.
Each of the six was an attempt to deal with a primary or
secondary color in its purest state possible in paint.
By making the background the same color as the seat
one gets the impression that the seat is suspended in some sort
of metaphysical space and the reflections become cosmic.
The little black drainage hole is an important leitmotif
from one canvas to another, always in the same spot.
